Grygera is a versatile and aggressive defender who can play anywhere along the back line, but is now firmly established on the right side of the Czech Republic's defence. However, he often found himself among coach Karel Bruckner's first tactical substitutions during Euro 2004 and may well be sacrificed again if the side find themselves in trouble during games in Germany. He was promoted to the senior side in 2001 after helping the Czech Republic finish runners-up in the 2000 Under-21 European Championship and was also snapped up by Sparta Prague before joining Ajax in 2003 and winning the Dutch championship.
