Teams : Australia / Everton Position : Midfielder DOB : December 6, 1979 Height : 1.78m Weight : 65kg
Born in Sydney to a Samoan mother and an English father, Cahill appeared for the Western Samoa Under-20 team aged just 14. That made him ineligible for Australia, but Cahill's case was argued for several years and was a major factor in a rule change by FIFA in 2004. Moved to England at 16 with Millwall, helping them to the 2004 FA Cup final and earning a move to Premiership side Everton. With great aerial ability and a knack of making late runs into the box, Cahill scored six goals in his first four internationals and 12 in his debut Premiership season, earning him the 2004 Oceania Player of the Year award and helping Everton into the Champions League. |
