Coach : Dick Advocaat
Advocaat has endured mixed fortunes since leaving Rangers. He went on to manage his native Holland and then the United Arab Emirates before taking the South Korea job recently.
Key Players
Park Ji-Sung has surprised a few people since joining Manchester United from PSV. Tougher than his small stature might suggest, he can tackle, run all day and also poses a threat going forward, able to pick holes in a defence with clever passing.
Form Guide
After winning Group Seven in the Asian section quite comfortably, South Korea came second in the next phase behind Saudi Arabia but it was enough to take their place in Germany.
Form V Countries In Group
Despite qualifying for every World Cup since 1986, South Korea have never met France, Switzerland or Togo at the biggest tournament of them all.
Style Of Play
Typically well-organised, Advocaat's influence has not come through yet but he is likely to retain the solid foundations he inherited while giving the likes of Park and Seol license to create.
Group Verdict
While another fourth place is unlikely, if Advocaat can get it right there is no reason why South Korea cannot beat Switzerland to second place behind France. |
