Coach : Zlatko Kranjcar
A good man-manager, Kranjcar has to make the best of a limited pool of quality players and uses the little time he has with his squad to forge a good team ethic.
Key Players
Dado Prso - the burly Rangers striker is particularly strong in the air and despite his large frame can more than hold his own with the ball at his feet. Sometimes seems wasted as a target-man which limits his opportunities facing the goal.
Form Guide
Croatia did well to qualify from Group Eight, finishing top despite strong competition from Sweden, Bulgaria, Hungary and Iceland. They were unbeaten in 10 games winning 1-0 over the Swedes home and away.
Form Versus Countries In Group
Croatia were in the same group as Japan at France 98 and managed to grind out a 1-0 victory, as legendary striker Davor Suker scored the winning goal. Such illustrious players as Suker, Robert Jarni and Robert Prosinecki are lacking now, however.
Style Of Play
Unspectacular, the Croatian side patiently keeps possession and looks to the talented midfield to feed Prso up front and create chances. The team work hard for each other and tackle fervently to gain possession.
Group Verdict
The Croatian public will hope their side can join Brazil in the last 16 but hopes are not as high as they would have been at the two previous World Cups with a side largely devoid of young, world-class talent. Both Australia and Japan pose a real threat to their chances. |
