The talented and charismatic veteran, who will be 40 when the World Cup starts, was voted Africa's best goalkeeper in 2004 after helping his side win the 2004 Nations Cup. In June 2005 he was the oldest player at the Confederations Cup in Germany where Tunisia finished third behind the hosts and Argentina. Boumnijel spent all his career in France - Gueugnon, Nancy, Bastia and Rouen - before joining Club Africain in 2005. He has imposed himself as Tunisia's undisputed number one. "Age has no importance, I still have the passion and determination for football and it won't stop now," he recently declared when asked when he was planing to retire. Although he refuses to set himself a date, the 2006 World Cup could well be his last international competition. |
